Dion Lopy reflects on a challenging season and his love for La Liga
Senegalese international Dion Lopy, currently on vacation in Senegal, shared his reflections on a season of trials and lessons with UD Almería, despite the team’s relegation to the Segunda División. Speaking at the Maniang Soumaré stadium in Thiès during a gala match between professionals from Thiès and Dakar, Lopy discussed the past season, his future ambitions, and his enduring passion for La Liga.
Assessing a Difficult Season
Reflecting on the season, Lopy acknowledged the challenges faced by Almería. “It was a difficult season, especially for the club.
But personally, I learned a lot, especially mentally. I also progressed physically and technically,” Lopy said.
He pointed out that a lack of confidence and aggressiveness often hindered their performance.
“We played some good games that we deserved to win, but due to lack of confidence we were relegated,” he added.
Coping with Relegation
Lopy was brought in to help Almería maintain their top-flight status, a mission that ultimately fell short.
Despite this setback, he remains optimistic. “I was recruited to bring my qualities and help the team to maintain itself, but unfortunately, things did not go as I would have liked.
This season will serve as a lesson for us and help us move forward,” he stated.
Lopy emphasized his commitment to the club, saying, “If I had to do it again, I would sign again without hesitation.”
Passion for La Liga
Having completed a season in La Liga, Lopy expressed his admiration for the Spanish league. “I always dreamed of playing in the Spanish championship, convinced that I had the qualities.
This season La Liga has given me a lot. I love this championship and I hope to be able to play there for many more years,” he said.
His experiences in La Liga have reinforced his desire to continue competing at the highest level in Spain.
Future Prospects and Transfer Rumors
Addressing rumors of interest from German clubs, Lopy seemed unaware of any formal approaches. “Regarding the rumors of interest from German clubs, you are the one who told me that.
I have no notification of this at the moment. I haven’t spoken with my agent yet, I’m currently on vacation,” he noted.
However, he remains focused on his current contract with Almería. “What is certain is that I am under contract with Almería, the rest the future will tell us,” he added.
Commitment to Almería
When asked about his future with Almería, Lopy reiterated his commitment to the club. “I have a six-year contract with Almería. We will see what the club decides.
It is a great satisfaction to be among the Almería players with a high market value. This shows that we have made our mark this season, even if everything has not been perfect.
My duty is to play,” he said.
Highlight and Lowlight of the Season
Reflecting on his best and worst performances of the season, Lopy highlighted the match against Real Madrid as a standout.
“I think it was against Real Madrid. I believe it was during this match that many discovered my qualities and that I can compete with the best midfielders in the world,” he said.
Conversely, he pointed to the game against Athletic Bilbao as particularly challenging.
“I would say that our match against Bilbao was particularly difficult. We were outplayed in every aspect of the game,” he admitted.
As Dion Lopy looks ahead, his dedication to Almería and passion for La Liga remain unwavering.
Whether he stays to fight for promotion or explores new opportunities, his journey in professional football continues to be one of growth and resilience.
