Ivory Coast secured their third consecutive victory in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers, defeating Gabon 1-0 in Korhogo. In contrast, Nigeria’s Super Eagles remain winless, drawing 1-1 with South Africa, marking their third draw in the qualifiers.

Ivory Coast’s Winning Streak

The Elephants of Ivory Coast continued their impressive form, maintaining their perfect record in Group F.

Seko Fofana played a pivotal role in their latest triumph over Gabon, ensuring his team stays on course for World Cup qualification.

The match, held in Korhogo, saw Fofana’s leadership and skill come to the forefront, as he guided his team to a narrow yet crucial 1-0 victory.

Despite the narrow margin, Ivory Coast’s dominance was evident throughout the match.

Their defense remained resolute, and their midfield controlled the pace, making it difficult for the Panthers to create any significant opportunities.

This victory solidifies Ivory Coast’s position at the top of Group F, showcasing their intent and capability to qualify for the 2026 World Cup.

Nigeria’s Continued Struggles

In stark contrast, Nigeria’s Super Eagles are facing a tough qualifying campaign.

Their latest match against South Africa ended in a 1-1 draw, adding to their earlier stalemates against Rwanda and Lesotho.

The Super Eagles have yet to find their winning form, much to the frustration of their fans and coaching staff.

The match, held in Nigeria, saw the home team struggle once again. South Africa took the lead in the 29th minute with a goal from Themba Zwane, putting Nigeria on the back foot.

It wasn’t until the second half that Nigeria managed to find an equalizer, with Fisayo Dele-Bashiru scoring in the 46th minute.

Despite several attempts to take the lead, Nigeria couldn’t break down South Africa’s defense, resulting in yet another draw.

Group Standings

With three points from three matches, Nigeria currently sits in fifth place in Group C, trailing behind South Africa, Benin, Rwanda, and Lesotho.

This position puts immense pressure on Finidi George and his team to secure victories in their upcoming fixtures if they hope to stay in contention for World Cup qualification.

Match Results

Group C:

  • Nigeria 1-1 South Africa

Group F:

  • Ivory Coast 1-0 Gabon

Looking Ahead

Ivory Coast will aim to continue their winning streak as they progress through the qualifiers, with Seko Fofana leading by example.

For Nigeria, the path ahead requires urgent improvement and a shift in momentum to avoid missing out on the World Cup.

The coming matches will be crucial for both teams as they navigate the challenging road to 2026.
