Nottingham Forest manager Steve Cooper has offered reassurance on the recovery progress of Taiwo Awoniyi, the Super Eagles striker who sustained a severe groin injury during the 2026 World Cup qualifying match between Nigeria and Lesotho last month.
Although the striker underwent surgery and is anticipated to remain sidelined until the beginning of the new year, Cooper conveyed optimism about Awoniyi’s recovery.
The 26-year-old is reportedly responding well to his rehabilitation program, displaying resilience and a positive mindset.
“Taiwo’s injury is undoubtedly a long-term one. He is making good progress, but it will still be some time before he can return to competitive matches. Nevertheless, his rehabilitation program is proceeding positively.
He had a constructive meeting this week. Despite his dislike for being sidelined, he maintains a positive mentality,” commented Cooper in an update shared with the Nottingham Post.
Awoniyi, who has featured in 10 league matches for Nottingham Forest this season, securing four goals, has become an integral part of the team’s attacking force.
As the striker navigates his recovery journey, the club and fans are hopeful for his swift and complete return to action, emphasizing the significance of his positive outlook amid the challenges posed by his injury.
