Olympique de Marseille eyes Moroccan defender Nayef Aguerd

Olympique de Marseille is reportedly setting its sights on Moroccan defender Nayef Aguerd, aiming to bolster its defensive lineup ahead of the upcoming season.

Following a mixed season at West Ham United, Aguerd has emerged as a target for Marseille as the club seeks to reinforce its defensive capabilities.

Reports from various French sports media outlets indicate that Marseille’s interest in Aguerd stems from a desire to add solidity and assurance to their backline.

Pablo Longoria, the president of Marseille, is said to have given his approval for the pursuit of Aguerd, with Medhi Benatia, the sports director of the club, taking charge of negotiations to secure the transfer of the talented defender.

Given Aguerd’s market value, estimated at €35 million, Marseille’s management is considering proposing a loan deal with an option to purchase.

However, the outcome of the potential transfer hinges on negotiations with West Ham United and Aguerd’s own preferences, as he is also attracting interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia.

Aguerd, whose contract with West Ham runs until 2027, has showcased his prowess on the field throughout the season, tallying two goals and an assist in 28 appearances across all competitions for the London-based club.

As Marseille pursues Aguerd’s signature, the move signifies the club’s ambition to strengthen its squad and compete at the highest level in domestic and European competitions.

With Marseille aiming to bolster its defensive options, Aguerd could emerge as a pivotal figure in the team’s defensive setup, offering both experience and quality to the side.

The potential acquisition of Aguerd reflects Marseille’s commitment to strategic recruitment and investment in talent as the club strives to achieve its objectives in the upcoming season.
