Egyptian clubs await continental qualification: league results to determine fate
Egyptian football clubs are eagerly anticipating their participation in the upcoming African competitions, with qualification dependent on the outcome of the national league.
A source within the Egyptian Football Association revealed to FilGoal.com the criteria for selecting clubs to represent Egypt in continental tournaments for the next season.
“The determination of participating teams will be based on the final standings of the league, as was the case in the previous season. The league is set to conclude in the first week of August.”
“The league is expected to end at the same time it did last season, and CAF agreed to postpone the submission of team names until the end of the competition,” the source added.
Addressing speculations about the fate of continental participation, the source emphasized, “Any speculation about the rejection of CAF to postpone the submission of participating teams until the end of the league is an exaggeration.
We do not accept imposition of realities on us. The likelihood of CAF rejecting this request does not exceed 20%.”
In an official announcement, ENPPI confirmed their qualification for the CAF Confederation Cup next season following Al Ahly’s 4-1 victory over Al Ittihad Alexandria.
Similarly, Al Masry asserted their right to participate in the Confederation Cup next season based on the first round results.
Al Ahly’s victory dashed Al Ittihad Alexandria’s hopes of continental qualification for the next season.
Depending on whether the league standings at the end of the first round are considered, ENPPI and Al Masry would be tied on 28 points each. In this scenario, league regulations would be invoked.
Pyramids FC also secured continental qualification if the results of the first round are taken into account.
As of now, Al Ahly and Zamalek’s continental participation remains uncertain pending the completion of their postponed first-round matches.
