Senegalese international Keïta Diao Baldé, currently on loan to RCD Espanyol from FK Spartak Moscow, finds himself in a prolonged goal drought as he nears a year without finding the back of the net. Despite his efforts, the 2022 African champion has yet to score for the Spanish second division club, leaving fans and pundits wondering about his scoring prowess.
Baldé, who made his mark at Lazio during the 2016-2017 season with 16 goals in 34 appearances, has struggled to replicate that form during his time at Espanyol.
With 26 matches played in all competitions, including 20 in the second division, the Senegalese forward has been unable to breach opposition defenses.
Although not a regular starter under coach Manolo González, Baldé’s limited opportunities have hindered his chances to showcase his abilities.
Despite a lack of game time, Baldé’s goal-scoring instinct appears to be waning. With just one decisive contribution this season, during the Copa del Rey clash against Real Valladolid, where he provided an assist for Espanyol’s opening goal, Baldé’s drought persists.
The last time Baldé found the back of the net was almost a year ago, on May 7, 2023, during Spartak Moscow’s match against Zenit St. Petersburg.
Since then, the Girona-born forward has endured a barren spell, with no goals to his name.
His absence from the scoresheet has coincided with a period of exclusion from the Senegalese national team, further adding to his frustrations.
As Baldé continues his quest to rediscover his scoring touch, Espanyol fans remain hopeful that the talented forward will soon break his goal-scoring drought and contribute to the team’s success in the remainder of the season.
