The Nigerian Football Federation (NFF) has initiated talks with the representatives of Samuel Omorodion, the promising young striker from Deportivo Alavés, in a bid to persuade him to choose to play for the Super Eagles of Nigeria over Spain, despite holding dual nationality.
At just 19 years old, Omorodion has already made a significant impact in La Liga, showcasing his talent with 9 goals and 1 assist in 30 appearances for Deportivo Alavés in his debut season.
His impressive performances have attracted the attention of the Nigerian Football Federation, which sees him as a valuable addition to the national team.
In their efforts to secure Omorodion’s commitment to Nigeria, the NFF has reached out to his entourage, particularly his father, to discuss the possibility of representing his ancestral homeland on the international stage.
While Omorodion’s father sees no drawbacks to the proposal, he acknowledges that the final decision rests with his son, who currently features for Spain’s U19s and U21s.
Despite his involvement with the Spanish youth teams, Omorodion remains undecided about his international future. In a recent statement, he expressed gratitude to Spain for the opportunities they have provided him but did not prioritize playing for Nigeria at this stage of his career.
“My goal is to establish myself in the senior team and pursue a career in Spain,” he stated.
However, the NFF remains hopeful that Omorodion’s allegiance could shift in favor of Nigeria, especially considering his eligibility to represent the Super Eagles as long as he has not featured for Spain’s senior national team.
