Thiago Alcantara’s hopes of participating in the 2014 World Cup have been dashed due to an unfortunate injury. Despite being selected in Vicente Del Bosque’s initial 30-player squad for the tournament, the former Barcelona player has been forced to withdraw. Thiago suffered a partial rupture of the ligaments in his right knee during a Bundesliga match against Hoffenheim, and despite working hard to recover, he experienced a setback upon returning to training after six weeks of rehabilitation.
Bayern Munich confirmed Thiago’s withdrawal from the World Cup via a press release. Karl Heinz Rummenigge, the club’s CEO, expressed sympathy for the Spanish midfielder, stating, “It’s cruel for Thiago, we are really sorry for him. He was working hard to make his comeback and play the World Cup in his native country, and suddenly both dreams vanished.”
