Antoine Kombouaré has always held a special place for PSG, his beloved club, even after his dismissal in 2011. He harbors no ill feelings towards the Parisian club, especially since they did not replace him with just anyone, but with the respected Claude Makelele.
The coach of Burkinabe descent understands the ambition of PSG’s Qatari owners to revamp the club at all levels. However, Kombouaré admits it would have been difficult for him to step aside for a manager less prestigious than himself. Yet, the appointment of Carlo Ancelotti received unanimous approval due to his combination of prestige and results.
“After Leonardo left, I operated on my own for the last two months. While being fired is disappointing, it’s also a relief. It was time for a change. I would have been offended if they had appointed Claude Makelele. But with Ancelotti, what can I say? He ranks among the best coaches, alongside Ferguson, Guardiola, and Mourinho,” Kombouaré revealed to France Football. He may soon return to Ligue 1 next season with RC Lens, with his future at the club looking promising.
