Stoke City have secured the loan signing of left-back Josh Wilson-Esbrand from Manchester City for the remainder of the season. The move comes as the Championship side looks to bolster its squad in a bid to improve its fortunes in the league.
Wilson-Esbrand, 22, brings valuable experience to the Potters despite his young age. A product of West Ham United’s academy, he joined Manchester City at the age of 16 and has since been involved in high-level competitions. The left-back made two appearances for Pep Guardiola’s side during their 2022-23 UEFA Champions League campaign.
His professional journey has also included loan spells in France’s Ligue 1 with Stade de Reims and in the Championship with Coventry City, where he gained further exposure to competitive football.
Announcing the signing, Stoke City highlighted Wilson-Esbrand’s potential impact. “Josh has all the physical assets necessary to be a real asset at both ends of the pitch. As a left-footed player capable of covering several roles, he adds balance, versatility and quality to our team,” said the club’s sporting director.
The director also noted Wilson-Esbrand’s familiarity with the demands of the Championship and his previous success under Stoke manager Mark, stating, “With his Championship experience and having already been part of a successful team under Mark, Josh is well prepared to make a significant impact in a Stoke City shirt.”
The England youth international will wear the number 33 jersey at Stoke. His transfer is still subject to approval from the FA and EFL, but the move has been widely seen as a strategic addition for the Potters, who are aiming to strengthen their squad for the second half of the season.
Wilson-Esbrand’s versatility and proven track record at a young age are expected to provide Stoke City with a boost as they seek to climb the Championship table.
