On Tuesday, November 25, 2025, a team from the Confederation of African Football (CAF) held a Zoom meeting with the technical staff members of the 24 teams qualified for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Morocco.
CAF presented the 24 national team staffs with the entire Teams Workshop, covering almost all aspects related to the organization and execution of the competition.
At the end of the presentation, some participants inquired about the number of players who would be called up for the upcoming AFCON. Regarding the Indomitable Lions, there was no mention of a coach.
The answer was clear.
There will be 28 players and 17 accredited technical staff members for each team.
“I’m saying 28 players will be called up by each coach and accredited.”
This has been repeated several times.
Gernot Rohr, the Benin coach, reiterated the question, stating that 28 players have been selected for the AFCON. A Burkinabe player asked the same question, and the answer was 28 players.
“I keep reading that 27 players have been selected.” “NO, it’s 28 players selected by the national teams for this AFCON.”
Teams must be in Morocco 5 days before their first match. Clubs must release players for their national teams by December 8, 2025.
Officials have also expressed a desire for their teams to have bench viewing during matches, as is done in several major leagues.
Currently, no provisions are in place for this.
Regarding the FAN ID, the CAF team has assured that it will work with the organizing committee to facilitate and expedite the process for every fan and official.
Some delegations also expressed their desire to maintain peace and quiet in their hotels, to prevent fans or other individuals, sometimes close to players or delegation members, from booking rooms in the same establishment and disrupting the teams’ concentration.
Questions were raised regarding the accreditation of several journalists who followed the entire procedure without having their applications approved.
The CAF team stated that it remains attentive to all concerns and assured them that it is doing its best to satisfy everyone, with the goal of a great celebration of African football to be held in Morocco in less than a month.
