2026 World Cup Qualifiers: Zimbabwe game is the most important – South Africa coach Hugo Broos
Head coach of the South African national team, Hugo Broos insists their penultimate game against Zimbabwe is the most important as they seek to secure qualification to the 2026 World Cup tournament.
The Bafana Bafana’s World Cup qualification bid suffered a major setback after being declared losers in their match against Lesotho back in March for fielding an eligible player, Teboho Mokoena.
South Africa are now second in Group C with two matches to end the qualification series. The Bafana Bafana have their destiny in their own hands and must approach the final two games with all seriousness.
The Bafana Bafana will play host to Zimbabwe on Friday, October 10 in Johannesburg before traveling to Kigali for the final round of games, four days later.
Assessing his outfit chances of booking a place at the mundial, the Belgian trainer said, “If we can win that game [against Zimbabwe], we have 17 points; Nigeria, if they win their two games, can only have 17 points, and the same for Rwanda.
And if they win their two games, Benin cannot win their two games because they play against Nigeria and Rwanda. Therefore, the game on Friday is so important for us to win.”
Currently, Benin sit top of Group C with 14 points, while South Africa occupies second spot with similar points.
