2026 World Cup Qualifiers: We will face South Africa with confidence – Nigeria coach Eric Chelle
Nigeria head coach, Eric Chelle, says his side is feeling confident ahead of their 2026 World Cup qualifiers against South Africa.
The Super Eagles will be hosted at the Free State Stadium in the Matchday 8 games of the qualifiers tonight, with kick-off scheduled at 16:00 GMT.
Nigeria secured a narrow 1-0 win over Rwanda in Uyo on Saturday, while South Africa cruised to a commanding 3-0 victory over Lesotho in Bloemfontein the day before.
Hugo Broos’ side currently tops the FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign Group C standings with 16 points, while Nigeria have accumulated 10 points after seven matches.
Despite the gap, Chelle is confident his team can overcome the group leaders, starting by beating them on Tuesday, drawing belief from their crucial win against Rwanda.
“We are happy because we won 1-0, and we can now face South Africa with more confidence. I am happy, because we still have a chance,” Chelle said, per Sports247.
“My job is to make this team play well, and my choice matters, but the most important thing is the fitness of each player.
“This is my job, my heart, my gallery, and I respect all my players,” he added.
