2026 World Cup Qualifiers: We have to upset South Africa - Zimbabwe defender Jordan Zemura

Zimbabwe defender Jordan Zemura says they are determined to upset South Africa in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.

The Warriors will clash with Bafana Bafana at the Moses Mabhida Stadium on Friday with kick-off scheduled at 18:00 GMT.

The match is a crucial encounter for Bafana in particular, as a victory would significantly boost their chances of qualifying for the World Cup.

The Warriors, meanwhile, have only pride to play for against their neighbours, with their hopes of qualification long gone.

Speaking ahead of the game, Zemura said they don’t care if they end Bafana’s World Cup dreams.

“We are seeing this tie as a must-win game given what’s at stake,’’ Zemura said, according to Zimbabwean outlet Herald Online.

“We don’t care about their camp, whether they have the pressure or not.

“We care for ourselves, we look at ourselves in the mirror and tell ourselves that we can do better than what we have done.

“This is why we have to win this match against South Africa.’’

Zemura added, “It’s been almost a year since we won an international match.

“We should be the first to say that’s unacceptable because it is.

“We haven’t won any match in this campaign, and all that has to change tomorrow. South Africa are our neighbour and we should be motivated by that need to win the derby.

“This is a World Cup match, and we should know it also affects our rankings.

“So, we have been telling each other to raise the game. South Africa is a good team, and we are expecting the match to be tough.

“But we need to really play well and be able to seize our moments,” he added.
