Uganda secured a crucial 1-0 victory over Guinea in their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying match at Nelson Mandela Stadium in Kampala on Tuesday.
The Cranes bounced back from a disappointing 3-1 defeat to Mozambique in their previous game to claim all three points at home.
Meanwhile, Guinea came into the match after a frustrating 0-0 draw against bottom-placed Somalia, which dented their qualification hopes.
Uganda took the lead in the 35th minute when Allan Okello produced a brilliant curling free-kick that beat Guinea goalkeeper Soumaïla Sylla and found the bottom right corner of the net. Despite Guinea’s efforts to find an equalizer, Uganda held firm to secure the win.
The victory keeps Uganda third in Group G with nine points from six matches. They now trail group leaders Algeria and second-placed Mozambique by three points, as both teams sit at the top with 12 points each.
Guinea’s defeat saw them drop to fourth place with six points, level with fifth-placed Botswana, while Somalia remains at the bottom with just one point.
Uganda will now look to build on this performance in their next round of qualifiers as they continue their push for a spot in the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
