The head coach of Uganda, Paul Put, has urged his players to give their best on Tuesday when they take on Algeria in their final 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

With Algeria already qualified for the World Cup, Uganda, currently second in the group with 18 points, will be chasing a positive result to keep their play-off hopes alive.

Speaking ahead of the decisive encounter, Put emphasised the importance of focus and determination against a strong Algerian side.

“We know what we need in this match, and the players must go out and give their best,” he said.

Forward Jude Ssemugabi, who scored the winner against Botswana, echoed his coach’s sentiments and called for support from Ugandans.

“We need your support in this remaining game, and we promise you that we are going to work hard to win that game,” he stated.

The top teams from each group qualify automatically for the 2026 FIFA World Cup, while the four best second-placed teams will move into a CAF play-off to determine who advances to the inter-confederation play-offs.

Meanwhile, in other CECAFA Zone action, Ethiopia fell 3-1 to Burkina Faso, Sierra Leone defeated Djibouti 2-1 in Group A, and South Sudan held Togo to a goalless draw in Juba.

Tuesday’s fixtures will also feature Sudan away to DR Congo in Group B, Rwanda against South Africa in Group C, Burundi visiting Gabon in Group F, and Kenya clashing with Ivory Coast in Abidjan.

Somalia will also face Mozambique in a Group G match hosted in Algeria.
