Ghana midfielder Thomas Partey may miss next month’s 2026 World Cup qualifiers as he faces ongoing legal proceedings.
The 32-year-old is confronting serious charges, including five counts of rape involving two women and a sexual assault allegation involving a third.
The alleged incidents reportedly occurred between 2021 and 2022 during Partey’s tenure at Arsenal.
The charges came shortly after the midfielder’s contract with the London club expired at the end of June.
Partey appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on August 5 and was granted conditional bail. His next hearing is scheduled for September 2 at the Old Bailey.
Despite the legal uncertainties, Partey has completed a transfer to Spanish La Liga side Villarreal FC.
Black Stars coach Otto Addo is expected to announce his squad for the upcoming Matchday 7 and 8 World Cup qualifiers this week, though Partey’s inclusion remains unclear.
Ghana will first face Chad at the Stade Olympique Maréchal Idriss Déby Itno on September 4, before returning home to host Mali at the Accra Sports Stadium on September 8.
Currently leading Group I after six matches, the Black Stars are keen to maintain momentum in their quest for a fifth World Cup appearance.
