2026 World Cup Qualifiers: There is nothing to be ashamed of - Niger coach Zaki Badou after 5-0 loss to Morocco

Niger head coach Zaki Badou lauded Morocco as “the strongest in Africa” following his team’s 5-0 loss to the Atlas Lions in Friday’s 2026 World Cup qualifier.

Speaking at a post-match press conference, Badou emphasized that despite the heavy defeat, his side had no reason for shame.

“We have nothing to be ashamed of,” Badou said. “We lost to a team that is currently the strongest in Africa and the top candidate for the Africa Cup of Nations.”

The Niger coach acknowledged the challenge of facing Morocco at full strength, particularly under difficult circumstances.

“It’s difficult to keep up with the strength of Morocco with its full squad, let alone when we’re down due to an early player expulsion, and in front of a strong crowd in the stands.”

Badou also extended his congratulations to the Moroccan team, wishing them success in the 2026 World Cup.

In a striking endorsement, the coach singled out Moroccan star Achraf Hakimi for the European Ballon d’Or, praising his performances for both Paris Saint-Germain and the national team.

“He fully deserves it,” Badou asserted.
