Chiquinho Conde, the head coach of Mozambique, has raised the temperature for Tuesday’s World Cup qualifying match, describing the encounter with Algeria as an important match that might influence the nation’s football history.
The two sides, locked on 12 points atop Group G, will battle it out at Hussein Ait Ahmed Stadium to claim sole leadership in the sixth round of qualifying.
“The match against Algeria is very important to maintain our chances of playing in the World Cup, and it could be the most important match in our history,” Conde said in a pre-match press conference.
“The match will be different, and will not be completely similar to the last one we played against Uganda in Côte d’Ivoire. The level will be extremely high.
“I promise our fans that we will do everything in our power to return from Algeria with the three points. We carry on our shoulders the dream of an entire nation that wants to see their national team play in the next World Cup,” he ended.
