2026 World Cup qualifiers: South Africa beat Lesotho 2-0 to maintain top spot in Group C

South Africa remains top of Group C in the 2026 World Cup qualifying series following victory over Lesotho on Friday afternoon.

Despite creating scoring opportunities, both teams were unable to find the back of the net as the first half of the much-anticipated clash ended in a draw.

Putting on a stellar performance, the Bafana Bafana scored two crucial goals to secure victory over their opponent at the Peter Mokaba Stadium.

South Africa scored two goals in a space of four minutes to snatch maximum points in the thrilling clash.

Orlando Pirates attacker Relebohile Mofokeng broke the deadlock in the 60^th-minute mark before Mamelodi Sundowns star  Jayden Adams cemented the win in the 64^th-minute, ensuring the Bafana Bafana maintain their lead in the qualifiers.

South Africa are on top of the table with 10 points and are being trailed by Benin, who have accumulated eight points from the initial five matches.

The former African champions will travel to face Benin in the crucial clash on March 25, 2025  in Ivory Coast at the Stade Félix Houphouët-Boigny.
