Rwanda returned to winning ways in their 2026 World Cup qualifications, defeating Zimbabwe in a crucial away clash on Tuesday afternoon.
In a high-stale clash at the Orlando Stadium, the visitors cruised to a narrow victory over Zimbabwe to better their position on the standings in Group C.
APR FC attacker Gilbert Mugisha opened the scoring for Rwanda in the 39th-minute as the visitors went to the halftime break with the advantage.
And with no additional goal in the second half, Rwanda cruised to victory to merit the three maximum points at stake.
Before this game, Rwanda had suffered a narrow defeat to the Super Eagles of Nigeria, undermining their chances of snatching qualification to the mundial to be staged in the USA, Canada and Mexico next year.
Rwanda are now fourth in their group, accumulating 11 points after eight matches and are six points adrift of leaders, South Africa.
Meanwhile, Rwanda are tied on similar points with West African powerhouse Nigeria and Benin.
They are expected to return to action in October to finalize the World Cup qualification against Benin and South Africa.
Rwanda will take on Benin on October 6 before their final qualification game against South African on October 13.
