The Black Stars of Ghana have climbed to the top of the Group F standings in the qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
This follows a resounding 5-0 win against Chad in Round 5 of the qualification matches.
The encounter between Ghana and Chad was played at the Accra Sports Stadium on Friday, March 21.
Playing at home, the Black Stars set up with an attacking lineup that paid off after just two minutes into the first half.
In-form Antoine Semenyo scored after a scramble in the Chad area to give Ghana the lead.
In the dominant performance that followed after the goal, the Black Stars scored two more before the halftime break, thanks to equalisers from Inaki Williams and Jordan Ayew who scored from the spot.
Despite having the chance to regroup during recess, Chad could not turn things around in the second half.
Rather, the Black Stars continued to dominate the game, scoring a fourth through a Mohammed Salisu header in the 57th minute. The defender headed home a well-taken corner kick effected by Ernest Nuamah.
Ten minutes later, Ernest Nuamah was put through by Jordan Ayew with a smart pass and fired a low shot that found the back of the net.
Although the Black Stars would create several other chances, there were no goals as the hosts secured an emphatic 5-0 win over Chad at full-time.
The win takes Ghana to the top of Group I while Chad stays bottom of the qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Up next for the Black Stars of Ghana, they will face off with Madagascar in Round 6 of the qualifiers.
That game will be played in Morocco on Monday, March 24.
