The Black Stars of Ghana put up a fight on Monday night to secure a crucial 1-0 victory against Mali in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers.

Coming into the game under pressure after a frustrating draw against Chad, Ghana needed nothing less than victory to keep control of Group I.

The return of Thomas Partey and Alexander Djiku to the starting lineup gave the Black Stars a much-needed boost, strengthening both midfield and defense.

Mali proved a stubborn opponent and created several nervy moments for the hosts. However, it was Alexander Djiku who made the difference, scrambling home the decisive goal in the second half to hand Ghana a narrow but crucial victory.

The result keeps Ghana at the top of Group I with 19 points, three clear of Madagascar, as the September international window closes.

Looking ahead, the Black Stars will need to collect valuable points in their final two fixtures against the Central African Republic and Comoros in October to seal their ticket to the 2026 World Cup.

Any slip-up could open the door for Madagascar or Comoros to snatch qualification.
