2026 World Cup Qualifiers: Gabonese referee Pierre Ghislain Atcho appointed to handle South Africa vs. Nigeria clash
FIFA has confirmed Gabonese referee Pierre Ghislain Atcho as the man in the middle for next week’s crucial 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier between Nigeria and South Africa in Bloemfontein.
The highly anticipated Matchday 8 encounter will take place at the Toyota Stadium on September 9.
Fellow Gabonese officials will support Atcho: Boris Marlaise Ditsoga (Assistant Referee 1), Amos Abeigne Ndong (Assistant Referee 2), and Cregue Fleury Moukagni (Fourth Official).
The referee assessor for the tie is Olivier Safari Kabene from DR Congo, with Uganda’s Mike Letti serving as the match commissioner.
Before the South Africa fixture, Nigeria will host Rwanda in Uyo this Saturday for their Matchday 7 clash at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium.
Chadian referee Allaou Mahamat has been appointed to handle that game, assisted by compatriots Bogollah Issa (Assistant Referee 1), Moussa Hafiz (Assistant Referee 2), and Abdelkerim Ousmane (Fourth Official).
Taher Abdelsalam Mahmoud from Egypt will act as referee assessor, while Bakary Jammeh of Gambia will serve as commissioner.
