DR Congo showed impressive efficiency in front of goal to defeat Mauritania 2-0 in the qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Tuesday, March 25.
The two national teams locked horns today in a Round 6 showdown in Group B.
Although Mauritania finished the game having enjoyed 66% of the ball possession, they had nothing to show for it.
DR Congo with just 34% of the ball possession took the chances they created to secure all three points.
The win was thanks to goals from Charles Pickel in the first half and Fiston Mayele in the second half.
Following the victory, DR Congo now tops Group B in the African qualifiers for the 2016 FIFA World Cup.
With nine points, DR Congo leads Senegal by one point.
Sudan and Togo follow in third and fourth, respectively, while South Sudan and Mauritania occupy the last two spots.
All national teams of the six countries will aim for positive results in the next round of games in September.
