2026 World Cup Qualifiers: Comoros beat Central African Republic 2-0 to close in on Ghana in Group I
Comoros made a significant step towards qualifying for the 2026 FIFA World Cup with a 2-0 victory on Sunday afternoon against the Central African Republic.
Playing away from home after losing to Mali last week, the Comoros national team didn’t leave anything to chance.
The team put up a strong performance in the first half, ensuring that they got the job done before the break.
Following a very good start to the match, Comoros equalised through Youssouf M’Changama in the 20th minute after he was set up by Myziane Maolida.
Later in the 39th minute, Myziane Maolida was set up by Faiz Selemani and also equalised to double the lead for the visitors.
Despite the best efforts of the Central African Republic in the second half, the defense of Comoros stood strong to ensure the team cruised to the 2-0 win at the end of the 90 minutes.
With the triumph today, Comoros now sits second in the Group I standings with 15 points, just one point behind Ghana.
However, the Black Stars could open the gap on Monday when they come up against Mali in their Round 8 fixture.
A defeat will mean Ghana will be under immense pressure heading into the final two matches of the World Cup qualifiers in October.
