2026 World Cup qualifiers: Burkina Faso cruise past Djibouti with ruthless display

Burkina Faso showed no mercy as they thrashed Djibouti 6-0 in the World Cup qualifiers at the Estádio Nacional 24 de Setembro on Friday afternoon.

The match turned quickly when Djibouti’s Yabe Siad was sent off just ten minutes in, leaving the hosts to battle with ten men against a side full of pace and precision. Moments later, Cyriaque Irie broke the deadlock, sparking a flood of goals. Josué Tiendrébéogo doubled the lead, before Edmond Tapsoba struck twice in quick succession to make it 4-0 before halftime.

Djibouti looked overwhelmed but kept chasing the ball under the scorching sun, cheered on by their small but spirited crowd. Burkina Faso, calm and clinical, tightened their grip in the second half. Dango Ouattara added two goals, including a late penalty, sealing a commanding win.

The result pushes Burkina Faso to second in Group A with 14 points, keeping them firmly in contention for a spot at the 2026 World Cup. Djibouti remain bottom with just a single point. Next up, Burkina Faso face Egypt, while Djibouti meet Guinea-Bissau.
