2026 World Cup qualifiers: Black Stars eye revenge win over Comoros to seal World Cup qualification
The Black Stars of Ghana are determined to end their 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying campaign on a high as they seek revenge against Comoros on Sunday in Accra.
Ghana have been one of the standout performers in the African qualifiers, winning seven, drawing one, and losing one of their nine matches so far. Their only defeat came against Comoros in a narrow 1-0 loss in Round 2, a result that still lingers in the minds of many fans.
That defeat followed a painful 3-2 loss to the same opponents at the 2022 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), and for many Ghanaians, Sunday’s clash presents the perfect opportunity for payback.
Playing on home soil, the Black Stars are tipped to secure all three points and seal their ticket to the 2026 World Cup in style. Their confidence will be further boosted by the 5-0 thrashing of the Central African Republic in their previous outing.
With qualification within reach, Otto Addo’s men will be motivated not only by the desire to reach their fifth World Cup but also by the need to delight their home supporters with a statement win.
Comoros, meanwhile, have little to play for, knowing a victory will not be enough to secure qualification. However, they are expected to put up a fight, having already caused Ghana problems in recent years.
The decisive Group I encounter will take place on Sunday, October 12, at the Accra Sports Stadium, with kick-off set for 7:00 p.m.
