Algeria coach Vladimir Petkovic has lauded his outfit tenacity following their resounding victory over Mozambique in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers.
The former African champions cruised to an emphatic 5-1 win over Mozambique in the sixth round of the qualifying campaign at the Stade Hocine Aït Ahmed on Tuesday night.
Forward Mohamed Amoura fired a hat-trick to propel the Desert Foxes to victory in the thrilling clash.
“We achieved a very important victory over the runner-up, which allowed us to take sole possession of the top spot in Group G, which strengthens our chances in the qualifiers,” Petkovic said during the press conference.
“Our players showed great fighting spirit and maintained their focus throughout the 90 minutes. This made me very happy and prompts me to thank them for everything they did today.”
“I thank all the players for their excellent performance in the match, despite the fatigue and exhaustion they suffered after returning from Botswana. They showed great fighting spirit and focus.”
He continued, “We have taken an important step forward with this victory, but we must focus and prepare well for our upcoming matches, as the qualifiers are not over yet.”
The Algerian team took the lead alone with (15) points, followed by Mozambique (12), then Botswana and Uganda (9), Guinea (7), and finally Somalia with one point.
