Captain of Smouha Alexandria, Sherif Reda, has expressed confidence in Egypt’s chances of advancing from Group G at the 2026 World Cup, where the Pharaohs will face Belgium, New Zealand, and Iran.
“I hope the Egyptian national team qualifies from the group stage of the World Cup. We need to believe that we can do that. We have strong players, perhaps most of them are local, but the Egyptian league is strong and one of the best Arab leagues.”
Reda also commented on Mohamed Salah’s role in easing team pressure.
“I believe that Mohamed Salah’s statements relieved the psychological pressure on the players and helped them play more comfortably, and holding him responsible for the Egyptian national team not winning the Africa Cup of Nations title is a very exaggerated statement.”
Reflecting on his own ambitions, Reda said, “My dream is to play for the Egyptian national team. This is my eighth season in the Premier League. Every season I try to do my best to achieve my dream, even if it’s just by being in one of the training camps. This is a dream for any football player in Egypt.”
