2026 WCQ: Ghana on brink as Africa’s final matchday unfolds

Ghana stand just one win away from confirming their place at the 2026 FIFA World Cup as the final round of CAF qualifiers takes centre stage this Sunday across the continent.

The decisive fixtures in Groups A, E, and I are set to determine the last few teams joining the African contingent heading to North America.

In Group I, all eyes will be on Accra, where Ghana host Comoros at 20:00 GMT.

The Black Stars top the standings with 22 points, three clear of Madagascar, who travel to face Mali at the same time.

Elsewhere in Group I, Chad welcome the Central African Republic at 17:00 GMT in a fixture that will have no bearing on qualification but will offer both sides a chance to end their campaigns on a positive note.

Chad sit bottom of the table with just one point, while the Central African Republic have managed five.

In Group A, Egypt, who have already sealed their World Cup qualification with 23 points, round off their campaign against Guinea-Bissau in Cairo.

Burkina Faso, sitting second on 18 points, face Ethiopia, while Djibouti host Sierra Leone.

Although the Pharaohs have already punched their ticket to the finals, the battle for second place remains open, with Burkina Faso keen to finish strongly.

Meanwhile, in Group E, Zambia will play Niger at 14:00 GMT in Lusaka.

Group leaders Morocco have already secured their qualification, topping the table with 21 points from seven matches.

Niger, on 12 points, will look to close their campaign with pride, while Zambia, with 9 points, aim to give home fans something to cheer about after an inconsistent run.

As the curtain falls on Africa’s qualifying campaign, Sunday’s matches promise high drama, tense atmospheres, and defining moments across multiple cities.

For Ghana, in particular, a single victory will book their passage to the global stage — a fifth World Cup appearance within their grasp.
