Tanzania U17 have made history by becoming the first nation to secure qualification for the knockout stage of the U17 Africa Cup of Nations, following a commanding 3-0 victory over Angola in Group C on a dominant matchday performance.

The young Taifa Stars continued their outstanding start to the tournament with another composed and clinical display, underlining their growing reputation as one of the standout teams in the competition so far.

From the opening whistle, Tanzania showed intent, pressing high and controlling possession in key areas of the pitch. Their early pressure eventually paid off in the first half when Razaki Mbegelendi broke the deadlock, giving his side a deserved lead and setting the tone for what would become a confident performance.

Razaki Mbegelendi struck at a crucial moment to put Tanzania in control, as Tanzania U17 began to dictate the rhythm of the match against a struggling Angolan side.

After the break, Tanzania maintained their intensity and doubled their advantage through Hassan Kizinga, whose goal further strengthened their grip on the contest and left Angola with a mountain to climb.

Hassan Kizinga’s strike reflected Tanzania’s growing attacking confidence in the tournament, as they continued to punish defensive lapses with sharp movement and efficient finishing.

Angola’s hopes of mounting a comeback were dealt a major blow in the 64th minute when Osvaldo Costa was shown a red card, reducing his side to ten men at a critical stage of the match. The dismissal shifted momentum completely in Tanzania’s favour and opened further space for them to exploit.

Tanzania wasted little time capitalising on their numerical advantage. Just two minutes after the red card, Sadam Hamis added a third goal to put the result beyond doubt and complete a dominant afternoon for the East African side.

Sadam Hamis finished off the scoring with composure, sealing a performance that highlighted Tanzania’s attacking balance, defensive organisation, and tournament maturity.

The result ensures that Tanzania U17 now sit comfortably at the top of Group C with six points from two matches, guaranteeing their place in the knockout stage of the competition with a game to spare.

U17 Africa Cup of Nations has already seen several competitive performances, but Tanzania’s consistency has stood out as they continue to grow in confidence with each outing.

For Angola, the defeat leaves their qualification hopes hanging in the balance, as they now face a crucial final group match needing a positive result to keep their tournament alive.

Tanzania, meanwhile, will head into their final group fixture full of confidence, having already achieved the milestone of reaching the knockout rounds. Their performances so far have sent a strong message to the rest of the competition: the Taifa Stars are not just participating—they are competing with intent and ambition.
