2026 FIFA World Cup Qualifiers: Nigeria open camp in South Africa ahead of crucial games
The Super Eagles of Nigeria have officially opened camp in Polokwane, South Africa, as preparations commence for their crucial Matchday 9 encounter in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against the Crocodiles of Lesotho.
Head coach Eric Chelle, his technical crew, and backroom staff arrived in Polokwane on Monday and are lodged at the luxurious Ranch Hotel, which will serve as the team’s base throughout the week.
According to team media officer Promise Efoghe, invited players are expected to start arriving in camp later today. Some players are already in Johannesburg and will connect a flight to Polokwane in the coming hours.
The Super Eagles will hold their first official training session on Tuesday as they intensify preparations for the decisive fixture.
Nigeria will face Lesotho at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane on Friday, with kick-off scheduled for 5:00 p.m. Nigerian time.
After the clash in South Africa, the Eagles will return home to host the Squirrels of Benin Republic in their final qualifier at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo next Tuesday.
Winning both matches is non-negotiable as it is the only way Nigeria will have any chance of qualifying for next year’s World Cup.
