Madagascar made a big statement in the African qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup on Wednesday afternoon after beating Central Africa Republic 4-1.
The national teams of the two countries locked horns today in Round 5 of the fixtures in Group I.
On the matchday, Central Africa Republic landed the first blow when the national team scored through Hugo Gambor just nine minutes into the first half.
Down but not out, Madagascar came from behind to secure an emphatic and crucial victory.
Two goals in quick succession from Rayan Raveloson in the 17th and 21st minutes respectively ensured that the visitors led 2-1 at halftime and were in control of the game.
Four minutes into the second half. Madagascar increased their lead, scoring through Arnaud Randriantenaina to make it 3-1.
Although Central Africa Republic pushed to get back into the game, the team could not find a way, with Lalaina Cliver Rafanomezantsoa adding a fourth goal for Madagascar in the 89th minute.
Courtesy of the resounding 4-1 win, Madagascar has climbed to the top of the Group I standings temporarily ahead of the other Round 5 games to be played in Group I.
