Veteran midfielder, Fredy scored in injury time on Thursday night to save Angola from what would have been a shocking defeat to Libya in the qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The national teams of the two countries locked horns today in a Round 5 encounter in Group D.

Although both teams played well in the first half, neither side could find the back of the net and had to go into the break on level pegging.

After recess, Libya showed determination and took the lead in the 75th minute thanks to a strike from Muaid Ellafi.

Starring in the face of defeat, it took Angola a lot of determination to avoid a defeat.

The visiting team pushed and managed to find the important equaliser in injury time. Midfielder Fredy netted the important goal to force the match to end in a 1-1 draw.

The result means Libya stays in second in the Group  D standings while Angola trail behind in fourth.

Cape Verde stays at the summit of the log with 10 points, one more than Cameroon in second.
