Niger opened their 2025 WAFU Zone B U20 Championship campaign with a narrow 1-0 win over Togo on Friday at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram, Ghana.
The Group B clash saw both sides display strong intent and attacking flair, but it was Niger who made their dominance count.
The decisive moment came in the 28th minute when Abdoul Latif Goumey calmly finished from close range to give Niger the lead.
Despite creating several chances and piling on the pressure in the second half, Togo were unable to find a way past a resolute Niger defence. The game ended with Niger securing all three points in a hard-fought contest.
Earlier in the day, defending champions Ivory Coast also got off to a winning start, defeating Burkina Faso 2-1 in the other Group B fixture.
After the first round of games in Group B, Ivory Coast sits top of the standings with three points, followed by Niger, on the same points.
Niger follows in third while Burkina Faso sits bottom of the table.
