The women’s national teams of Nigeria and Ghana will clash later this month in an international friendly match before the 2025 CAF Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) in Morocco.
The Ghana team, nicknamed the Black Queens, is already in Morocco preparing for the upcoming tournament.
In an official communique from the Ghana FA on Friday, June 20, it said the Black Queens will play three warm-up games this month, including the tough showdown with the Super Falcons of Nigeria.
“The Black Queens will engage in three international warm-up matches against Malawi, Botswana, and Nigeria before the start of the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).
“These fixtures form part of a larger preparation strategy aimed at helping the Queens acclimate, build stronger team cohesion, and fine-tune strategies ahead of the continental showpiece,” the Ghana FA statement said.
The statement added, “The team will host Malawi at the Ziaida Complex in Benslimane on June 21, before taking on Botswana four days later at the same venue.
“The Queens will then wrap up with a game against arch-rivals, the Super Falcons, on Friday, June 29, at the Lanouria Complex in a must-win showdown.
The friendlies will help Black Queens coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren to properly assess his team before the start of the upcoming WAFCON.
