The head coach of Nigeria, Eric Chelle, has praised his players for their resilience and fighting spirit after securing a hard-fought 2-1 win over Ghana in the semi-finals of the 2025 Unity Cup.
The match, held on Wednesday, May 28, at the Brentford Community Stadium, was a tightly contested affair.
Nigeria’s Super Eagles proved to be the better side in the first half and managed to score two goals.
However, in the second half, Ghana dominated the game and equalised through substitute Brandon Thomas-Asante.
Reflecting on the performance in his post-match interview, Coach Eric Chelle acknowledged the difficulty of the encounter and commended the Black Stars for their spirited display.
He further noted that he is proud of his players for earning a deserved victory.
“Since I became the coach [of Nigeria], we have had seven or eight training sessions. We have played three games, we have won two and drawn one. We need to improve, we need to work, the players need to know what I want.
“I think we made a great first half against Ghana, but in the second half, we were tired. I’m so proud of my players because they fought. It was difficult, but I think they deserved this victory,” the Nigeria head coach said.
After brushing aside Ghana in the semi-finals, Nigeria will now take on Jamaica in the finals of the 2025 Unity Cup on Saturday, May 31.
