2025 Unity Cup: Black Stars’ second-half shine not enough as Nigeria’s Super Eagles secure 2-1 win to reach final

The Super Eagles of Nigeria are through to the final of the 2025 Unity Cup after beating the Black Stars of Ghana 2-1 on Wednesday night.

The national teams of the two West African giants locked horns today at the Brentford Community Stadium for the second semi-final match of the four-nation tournament.

On the matchday, Rangers forward Cyriel Dessers scored after just 14 minutes into the first half to give Nigeria an early lead.

Five minutes later, an own goal by Ghana’s Razak Simpson doubled the lead for the Super Eagles.

Despite the many other chances created by Nigeria, the team could not add to their tally before halftime.

In the second half, the Black Stars came in strong as substitutes introduced by Coach Otto Addo provided needed energy to shift the balance of the game.

Unfortunately, the outstanding performance from the Black Stars could not inspire a complete comeback.

Substitute Brandon Thomas-Asante netted the only consolation goal for the Black Stars in the 70th minute.

After the result, Nigeria will take on Jamaica in the final match of the 2025 Unity Cup.

Ghana, on the other hand, will take on Trinidad and Tobago in the third-place encounter.
