The stage is set for South Africa and Nigeria to lock horns in the semi-finals of the 2025 CAF U20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournament.
The fixture has been confirmed by CAF following the conclusion of all quarter-final games on Monday, May 12.
In the first quarter-final match of the day, Nigeria clashed with defending champions Senegal in a tightly-contested affair.
Both teams laboured throughout the 90 minutes and extra time, but there was no winner.
Nigeria’s Flying Eagles showed nerves of steel in the penalty shootout, securing a 3-1 win to eliminate the defending champions.
For South Africa, they battled DR Congo in their quarter-final tie. Both teams put up a strong performance and battled for the win throughout the contest.
There was nothing to separate the two teams at the end of the 90 minutes despite the chances created in both the first and second half.
The breakthrough came in the first half of extra time with teenager Thabang Mahlangu scoring the only goal of the match to send DR Congo home.
The win means South Africa progresses to the semi-final stage of the 2025 CAF U20 Africa Cup of Nations where they will take on Nigeria.
The must-watch showdown will be played on May 15, at Suez Canal Stadium. Kick-off is at 3pm.
