Desmond Ofei, head coach of Ghana’s U-20 national team, has expressed confidence in his side’s ability to overcome Egypt in their Africa U-20 Cup of Nations quarterfinal clash on Monday and secure a place at the U-20 World Cup.
The crucial encounter is set for the Suez New Stadium, with the winner advancing to the semifinals and earning a ticket to the U-20 World Cup in Chile.
Speaking at a press conference on Sunday, Ofei acknowledged Egypt’s status as a tough opponent with a rich footballing history and strong fan support but emphasized that his team is ready for the challenge.
He made it clear that Ghana will stick to their playing philosophy in pursuit of victory.
“We will not change our playing style, and we are fully prepared for the match,” Ofei said.
“I have complete confidence in the abilities and potential of my players to reach the semifinals.”
The last time Ghana participated in a youth tournament in Egypt, they made history as the only nation from Africa to win the U20 World Cup in 2009.
