Ghana U20 head coach Desmond Ofei says his team will play without fear when they face reigning champions Senegal in a highly anticipated Group C encounter at the 2025 U-20 Africa Cup of Nations.
The match, scheduled for May 5 in Egypt, is expected to be one of the standout fixtures of the group stage, with both sides regarded as title contenders.
Ofei, who guided Ghana to gold at the 2023 African Games, is confident that the Black Satellites are well-prepared for the challenge.
Speaking to CAF Online ahead of the fixture, he acknowledged Senegal’s status but stressed that his players are focused and motivated.
“It’s a big match, no doubt,” Ofei stated. “But we’ll treat it like any other: with respect, focus, and confidence. We’ll execute our tactical plan, stay disciplined, and be fearless in key moments.”
The game against Senegal will be Ghana’s second outing in the group stage, following their opening match against DR Congo on May 2.
They will round off their Group C campaign against the Central African Republic on May 8. A strong performance against Senegal could prove decisive in securing a spot in the knockout stages.
Senegal enter the tournament as defending champions and favourites, having dominated youth football on the continent in recent years.
However, Ghana’s pedigree at U-20 level remains formidable, with past continental and global success boosting expectations of a deep run in the tournament.
With confidence high following their triumph at the African Games, the Black Satellites will be aiming to make a statement against the Young Teranga Lions and reinforce their status as one of the teams to watch in Egypt.
