Mali has advanced to the final of the 2025 U-17 Africa Cup of Nations following a 2-0 victory over Burkina Faso in Tuesday’s semi-final clash at the Stade Larbi Zaouli in Casablanca.
The young Eagles secured the win with goals in each half, setting up a title-deciding encounter on Saturday against either Morocco or Côte d’Ivoire.
Soumaila Fané gave Mali the lead in the 42nd minute with a spectacular long-range strike that flew into the top corner, leaving the Burkinabe goalkeeper rooted to the spot.
The second goal came in the 74th minute when Fané turned provider, delivering a precise cross that Mahamadou Traoré headed home.
Burkina Faso fought hard but could not penetrate Mali’s organised defence.
They created opportunities, including a notable miss by Halidou Diakité, whose close-range header went over the bar.
Their chances faded further after Ali Koné and Alassana Bagayogo were sent off in the second half for second bookings, ending their hopes of a comeback.
