Al Ahly bowed out of the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup after a thrilling 4-4 draw with FC Porto at the MetLife Stadium on Tuesday.
The Egyptian giants started strong, with Wessam Abou Ali opening the scoring in the 15th minute and later completing a hat-trick by the 51st.
His goals included a first-half strike, a well-taken penalty just before the break, and a header early in the second half.
Porto, however, kept responding. Rodrigo Mora equalised in the 23rd minute before goals from William Gomes and Zaidu Sanusi flipped the game after halftime.
Tunisian attacker Mohamed Ben Romdhane restored Al Ahly’s lead with a thunderous strike in the 64th, but Pepe’s late goal in the 89th minute ensured Porto shared the spoils.
Despite the draw, Al Ahly’s earlier results in Group A weren’t enough to keep them in the tournament.
They end their campaign with pride but without a place in the next round, while Porto also exits the tournament.
Wessam Abou Ali’s performance will be remembered, four goals shared, but one man stole the show.
