Egyptian midfielder Marwan Attia has stated that he is sad he will be absent next weekend when Al Ahly takes on FC Porto in their final Group A match at the 2025 FIFA Club World Cup.
He is, however, confident that Al Ahly will beat FC Porto to advance to the knockout stage of the tournament.
“This is definitely an important match. God willing, we’ll win and advance to the round of 16. We still have hope, and the players are focused on putting in a great performance against Porto. I’m sad to miss the Porto match. I’m confident that any player who replaces me will do their best and more,” Marwan Attia told Al Ahly’s media team.
He added, “Every match has its own circumstances. I think if we had faced Palmeiras at 8 or 9 PM, we would have performed better. This is no excuse, but I think the physical aspect also made a difference, as we hadn’t had a vacation for a whole year, while the Brazilian team was more physically prepared than us.”
Marwan Attia is set to miss the match against FC Porto due to an injury. Already, he has been booked to undergo surgery after the ongoing tournament.
The match between Al Ahly and FC Porto will be played on Tuesday, June 24.
