Nigeria’s CHAN Eagles have paused training as interim coach finalises the squad for their 2025 African Nations Championship (CHAN) qualifiers against Ghana.
The two-legged Jollof Derby, set for the Christmas period, will determine which team secures a spot at the CHAN tournament, co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania.
After missing the last two editions, including a 2022 elimination by Ghana in the playoffs, Nigeria is determined to reverse their fortunes.
Players have been training during weekdays while returning to their clubs for weekend matches but will reconvene only after the final squad announcement.
However, there will be no form of meeting or training again until the final squad is announced.
Victor Collins, one of the players training for the December games, confirmed this during an interview with Brila.net.
“They have not announced the list; we are waiting for it. The next time we all assemble will be when the final list is out. So I’m in Nasarawa now,” Collins explained.
The first leg is scheduled in Ghana between December 20 and 22, with the decisive return leg a week later in Nigeria.
