The head coach of Algeria, Vladimir Petkovic has acknowledged that they are the favourites in Group E for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations tournament.
While he admits that facing the likes of Burkina Faso, Equatorial Guinea, and Sudan, won’t be easy, he wants his side to bear the responsibility and perform well during the tournament.
“The draw placed us in a group that is not easy with Burkina Faso, Equatorial Guinea and Sudan. In this version of the Africa Cup of Nations, there are no small teams, and all the qualified teams deserve their place at this date.
“It is clear that we are the favourite team in the group and we must bear this responsibility, so our first goal will be to qualify for the second round and then we will see,” coach Petkovic said as quoted on the official website of the Algerian Federation.
He continued, “It is true that we have an idea about our competitors, especially Equatorial Guinea, whom we recently faced during the qualifiers for this edition, but we are required to focus on ourselves instead of thinking too much about other teams.”
The 2025 AFCON is scheduled to start on December 21, 2025, in Morocco.
