Simon Msuva’s second-half header secured Tanzania a vital 1-0 win over Guinea on Tuesday at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium, guaranteeing their qualification for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).
The victory ensures Tanzania finish second in Group H with 10 points, out of reach for third-placed Guinea and bottom-placed Ethiopia.
Msuva, who scored his third goal of the campaign, netted the decisive goal in the 61st minute, converting Mudathir Yahya’s precise cross. The goal sparked wild celebrations as Tanzania moved closer to their fourth-ever AFCON appearance.
Late in the match, Feisal Salum came close to adding a second, but his shot sailed over the bar.
Guinea pushed for an equalizer, with substitute Kandet Diawara missing a golden chance in the dying minutes.
Despite a strong first-half effort, including Mady Camara’s shot off the crossbar, Guinea’s attack was thwarted by a solid Tanzanian defense led by Dickson Job and Shomari Kapombe.
The loss ends Guinea’s qualification hopes, leaving them third with nine points. Tanzania seals their spot in AFCON 2025.
