Guinea Launches Organizing Committee for 2025 Africa Cup of Nations

The Guinean government has officially unveiled the Organizing Committee for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (COCAN 2025), marking a major step in the country’s preparations to host the continent’s premier football tournament. The announcement was made on Monday, with the committee being chaired by Sanoussy Bantama Sow, Guinea’s Minister of Sports, Culture, and Historical Heritage.

The committee brings together a blend of government officials, football administrators, and former players, reflecting Guinea’s commitment to organizing a successful and memorable tournament. Among the notable figures are Antonio Souaré, president of the Guinean Football Federation (Feguifoot), and former international Aboubacar Titi Camara, who will serve as a special advisor to the committee. Their experience is expected to provide both technical and organizational guidance.

Other key appointments include Fadi Wazni of the Boké Mining Company (SMB) as 1st Vice President and Antonio Souaré as 2nd Vice President. The committee also benefits from the involvement of government representatives such as Cherif Haidara and Mohamed Condé from the Prime Minister’s office, as well as Aboubacar Molota Camara, the Director of Operations.

The broader committee comprises a diverse mix of leaders from across the country, including regional governors, technical experts, and administrative officials. Members include Dr. Zalikatou Diallo, Amadou Diaby, Ibrahima Blasko Barry, Fodé Bouya Fofana, Germaine Manguet, Cheick Dem Lancinet, Kabassan Keita, Mamadi Kourouma, General Mathurin Bangoura (Governor of Conakry), Hadja Cissé, Sarangbè Camara (Governor of Kindia), Madifing Diané (Governor of Labé), Sadou Keita (Governor of Faranah), General Mohamed Diare (Governor of Kankan), and Mohamed Ismael Traoré (Governor of N’Zérékoré). Cheick Fantamady Condé and Fatoumata Conté have been appointed as the 1st and 2nd rapporteurs, respectively.

Guinea was originally slated to host the 2023 edition of the Africa Cup of Nations but accepted CAF’s proposal to postpone its hosting rights to 2025, providing additional time to ensure world-class facilities and tournament logistics.

With COCAN 2025 now formally established, Guinea has sent a clear message about its readiness and organizational ambitions. The committee will be tasked with overseeing all aspects of the tournament, from stadium preparation and security to hospitality, transportation, and fan engagement. Its creation is seen as a vital step toward ensuring that the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations is not only successful on the field but also a showcase for Guinea on the continental and international stage.
