Mali coach Tom Saintfiet has suggested that Morocco’s loss of structure at a crucial point cost them in their 1-1 draw against his side in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) group stage.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Saintfiet praised Morocco’s start but noted a shift after multiple substitutions.
“After the changes, the Moroccan team had no structure,” the Mali coach said. He added that the starting lineup was strong, but after “three changes and then two more,” he did not see a clear idea in Morocco’s play.
The Malian coach said his team capitalised on Morocco’s disorganisation, particularly during transitions.
“We found chances to punish Morocco in transition,” he said, noting that his team created two or three dangerous opportunities thanks to the quality of his players.
Brahim Diaz opened the scoring for Morocco with a penalty just before halftime, but Lassine Sinayoko levelled for Mali from the spot in the 64th minute.
Despite the draw, Morocco remains top of Group A, with Mali second, Comoros third, and Zambia at the bottom.
Morocco will meet Zambia on Monday in their next group-stage encounter, with fans eager to see how the group standings will evolve.
